Breaking up with someone leaves one with a lot of free time all of a sudden. Social Calenders change. Friends you haven't talked to since before you started dating aren't returning your calls. This new found "Me time" can simply become dead space if you don't fill it up with things that will help you move on and take your mind off things. One of my favorite "post break up" activities is reading. Not reading self help books, not reading articles on line called something like "So, you broke up! Now stop your bitchin' and pull yourself together," but simply pulling out a good, old fashioned novel and becoming engrossed in the trials and tribulations of characters and people who you do not know. Sometimes a night in reading is better than a night out with your girlfriends after a break up.
Here are a list of some great books that have gotten the ladies at Exboyfriendjewelry.com through some tough romantic times.
In no particular order:
1. Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austin
Believe the hype. If Mr. Darcy doesn't make you believe in true love again, nothing will!
2. Jane Eyre- Charlotte Bronte
Spoiler Alert:
She's a dork! And he still falls in love with her. YES!
3. Watermelon- Marion Keyes
Sometimes it's embarassing to be caught reading "Chick-lit" in public, but you're not going to be able to help that with this one. Just put on your big girl pants and throw this one in your purse.
4. The Bridge Across Forever- Richard Bach
Hey, if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, universe!
5. The Twilight Series- Stephanie Meyer
Somewhere out there there's a hot vampire who want to "wait" for you too. No there's not, but these books are like crack. Replacing your Ex with a vampire habit isn't such a bad thing.
6. The Excorsist-William Peter Blatty
I'm kidding. Don't read this book alone. On the other hand, the last few months haven't been THIS bad.
7. When You Are Engulfed In Flames-David Sedaris
Your Ex NEVER made you laugh this hard. Not once.
8. By Myself-Lauren Bacall
Now, here's a classy lady with a serious love story to tell! Sometimes I wish I had Lauren in my ear whenever I have to make romantic decisions. Lauren: "Tell him a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do, now blow cigarette smoke in his face, pick up your suitcase and walk out the door."
9. Live From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live- James A. Miller and Tom Shales
It's just Fun! Hearing about Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll straight from the horses mouth is just fun (See Also: Motley Crue: The Dirt).
10. Half the Sky- Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn
Um...You thought that break up was hard. Take a look at what women all over the world have pulled through to come out on top. Save a girl, Save the World.
