Welcome buyers and sellers!   Ready to get started?  Here's how:

HOW TO BUY

Hello shoppers!  Want to buy some jewelry?  It’s a snap!  Just follow these simple steps:

1.    Register with the site using your current and CORRECT information. Once you complete the registration page, an email will be sent to your email account.  You need to open that email and click the link to fully activate your account.

2.    Once activated, log in using the user name and password you just chose for yourself.

3.    Pick the category of jewelry that best suits your impulse buying needs and start shopping.  You can use the "Wish List" function to keep track of the items you like.

4.    Once you’ve found your “must have” item, send the seller a message via our private messaging system and make an offer.  Please see "Buying Tips" below for transaction recommendations and please check out "Safety Tips" for good info on buying safely online.

 5.    It's a good idea to print or save a copy of the ad for the item you've purchased.  If there is a dispute with the seller about the item you receive, you will have a copy of the ad and the full description of the item to refer to.

TIPS FOR BUYING:

*  Make sure you are clear about price, payment method and delivery.

*  Payment - WE SUGGEST USING WWW.SAFEFUNDS.COM  for all large transactions - for a small fee, they offer great protection for both buyer and seller.  Funds are not released until both parties are satisfied with the transaction.  If you choose to use PayPal, consider using your credit card through your PayPal account - this offers you 2 ways to dispute the sale if you do not receive the item or if it's not as described. Make sure to check the sellers PayPal membership status: only deal with VERIFIED members with accounts active longer than 60 days.  And remember, NEVER SEND PERSONAL CHECKS OR CASH.

*  Shipping - insist the seller insures the item and ships so that the package can be tracked.  You'll want proof that it was shipped, they'll want proof that it was received.  Express Mail from the US Postal Service is reasonable, comes with some insurance and is completely traceable and additional insurance can be purchased.  UPS with appropriate insurance is another good option.  If shipping Priority Mail or 1st class, it is recommended you ship certified mail with proof of receipt.

*  Educate yourself - Check out our Safety Tips section about buying safely on line, spotting fakes and avoiding scams.  ONE MORE TIP - keep your communication on our private message system.  Scammers like to start communicating directly by email so you don't see that we've blocked their account.

Now, gets to buyin'!

TIPS FOR SELLING:

*   Make sure you are clear in your messages with the buyer about price, method of payment and delivery.

*   Payment - WE SUGGEST USING  WWW.SAFEFUNDS.COM for all large transactions.  For a small fee, they offer great protection for both buyer and seller.  Funds are not released until both parties are satisfied with the transaction.

*   Shipping - Items should be insured and shipped so that the item can be tracked.  You'll want proof that you shipped and the buyer received the item.  Express Mail from the US Postal Service is resonable, comes with some insurance and is completely trackable and additional insurance can be purchased.  UPS with appropriate insurance is another good option.  If shipping Priority Mail or 1st class, it is recommended you ship certified mail with proof of receipt.

*   Posts only last 90 DAYS. That’s 90 days from the day you posted it. Once a post hits that 90 day mark it is gone, baby, gone. So, if it hasn’t sold by then, get on there and repost!

*   Limit of 5 ads up at any one time. The site will not let you upload more than 5 posts.   Hey, we know some of you have been LOADED UP with fancy jewelry but you'll just have to pace yourself.  We do this to prevent some users from using this site as their own personal EBay. We're a community of people selling EX jewelry and that’s how we want to keep it.

 *   Along the same lines, if you sell or trade an item click on “Manage listings” and click on the post you’d like to delete. Now you are free to post a new ad. Look at you!

*   If you are selling jewelry of any sort of substantial value, spend the money to get it appraised.  People usually want to know what they’re getting if it’s an expensive piece and PLEASE USE WWW.SAFEFUNDS.COM

*   If you are willing to TRADE for an item, please list that in your description

*  Educate yourself - Check out our Safety Tips section about selling safely on line and avoiding scams.  ONE MORE TIP - keep your communication on our private message system.  Scammers like to start communicating directly by email so you don't see that we've blocked their account.

A FEW RULES:

  • No more than 5 listings at any one time.  But feel free to post something new as soon as you sell something!  And no thowing multiple items in one listing unless it's a jewelry set or posting a link to another site where you sell jewelry.
  • You MUST share your story.  We want to keep things fun and cathartic so get it off your chest and tell why you're selling.
  • But don't go overboard!  No personal information should be given so don't be tossing in your ex's full name, address, phone numbers etc.  That's just not cool
  • Definitely check out "Safety Tips" to educate yourself about buying and selling online.
  • As you must know by now, we recommend Safefunds.com for all large transactions.  OK, that's not a rule...but it should be!  Want to guarantee you'll get your shiny new ring and that it's exactly as described before the seller gets your money?  Use Safefunds.com.  And sellers - put your buyer's mind at ease and offer to use Safefunds.  For a small, flat fee, they offer great protection for both buyers and sellers.  'Nuf said.
  • Don't sell fakes or knockoffs.  If you suspect your cheap ass ex gave you a fake, do a little research on how to spot a fake so you don't pay that bad karma forward.  You'll find some great sites for spoting fakes in our Safety Tips section
  • We reserve the right to remove any listing that doesn't follow the rules and are not obligated to refund the listing cost.
  • We reserve the right to block any account and remove that user from the site for any reason.

PHOTO TIPS

It's a good idea to resize your photos before uploading.  Photos taken with your digital camera are probably really big files that might be too large to upload with your listing.  There are lots of easy ways to resize your photo on your PC (Microsoft Picture Manager) or Mac (iphoto or preview) as well as websites that will resize for you with just a few simple clicks like PhotoSize.com or DoSize.com

For step by step instructions on a bunch of different programs, check out How To Resize Digital Photos at wikiHow.com

Our Quick and Dirty Guide to Non Blurry Photos of Your Jewels:

*   Lighting -
Shoot during the daytime to use as much natural light as possible.  Open the curtains, turn on all the lights, light candles!

*   Setting - Don’t throw the jewel on the desk next to the computer!  Put it on something pretty and solid and dark, like a big leaf or a fancy velvet dress or a silky piece of lingerie (but no patterns, if you please).  Or you can go crazy and clip a white sheet behind the camera (jewels love to reflect light).

*   Tripod - Find a cheap mini Tripod at your local camera store or online ($3-$10) or get creative and make your own using pillows, books, or Popsicle sticks.

*   Camera Settings - MACRO MODE - Most Digital cameras have it. A cute, little flower marks mine. It is the mode MADE for this kind of photography.  Use it.  Check your Owner’s Manual for specifics, but basically you should be about 2 Inches away from the piece you are shooting and zoomed out completely.  If your camera does not have a macro mode use the zoom rather than moving closer to the jewelry - back up from the jewelry and then zoom in to focus.  All cameras have a minimum focal distance to an object.  Again, check your user manual.

*   FLASH OFF - When shooting this close, a flash will blow out the photo.  Nuff said.

*   TIMER - Most of the blurriness when shooting jewels comes from camera shake.  You can avoid this by using the your timer mode in conjunction with your tripod expertise from above.  Set the timer, hit the shutter button and stop hovering cause you’re creating a shadow!  Don’t worry - you have 10 seconds to step away.
